Welcome to Grafton Parish website
Some of the historic information is not yet on line but will be uploaded as soon as we can!

The parish is made up of five villages - East Grafton, West Grafton, Wilton, Marten and Wexcombe.  Grafton Parish belongs to the Pewsey Area Board and our local authority is Wiltshire Council.

Our beautiful parish hall, Coronation Hall, is located on the village green in East Grafton and was completed in 2009 with help from local fundraising and a Big Lottery grant.  The hall was officially opened by the Duchess of Cornwall on Tuesday 23rd February 2010.

BEDWYNS' & GRAFTON LINK SCHEME IN CRISIS -

CAN YOU HELP?

The Link Scheme has provided a valuable service to the local community for more than fifteen years providing transport for those who need it for doctor appointments, hospital appointments and so on. During this time the process to match clients with volunteers has been achieved by the selfless devotion of one individual - Brenda Nolson - who is now retiring. Bedwyns’ Link Scheme chairman is asking for

volunteers from the community to come forward to take over from Brenda and to share the duties. You do not have to undertake other Link duties such as driving or visiting and calls are only taken between 9am and 1pm. The hours are not onerous and can be suited to individual availability with regard to days or hours worked.

If Brenda’s work cannot be redistributed, the Scheme may have to close or neighbouring Schemes may take it on if they are able to do so.  This would be a great pity because the Bedwyns’ Scheme would no longer be served locally by local volunteers helping their own neighbours.

Simultaneously, the committee is losing two long-standing members and so the Scheme is also appealing for at least two people to come forward and join the Committee. There are only four meetings a year and most routine business is done by email.

You can find out more about the Scheme at the AGM on 9th May at the Great Bedwyn Cricket Club Pavilion starting at 7.30pm. For more information contact Dr Hoshang Bharucha

on 01672 871330 or 0776 101 4328 or email eh.bharucha@doctors.org.uk.

Latest Neighbourhood Watch Notices from the Police

9th May 2013

Wiltshire police have taken several reports of thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles over the past couple of weeks. The most recent was a theft from a vehicle parked on a driveway in Shalbourne between Saturday 4th May and Monday 6th May 2013. These thefts appear to be mostly targeting 4x4 vehicles.

Wiltshire police would like to advise residents to make ensure their vehicles are secure using garages to house vehicles over night where possible. Closing driveway gates and parking vehicles off of the road will make them less vulnerable to would be thieves. If you must park on the road side park under a street lamp if available.

Please feel free to contact Pewey NPT if you have any queries regarding the above.

Kind regards

27th February 2013

Over the weekend of the 23rd / 24th February, approximately 400 to 500 litres of heating oil was stolen from Sunflowers at Grafton in East Grafton.

If you have any information regarding this theft or saw something odd or suspicious that you think may help with solving the crime, please contact the Police on 101.

This document contains further information and advice on oil storage.

17th January 2013

The Pewsey East area and the A338 corridor and byways in the vicinity of East Grafton in particular are currently being targeted by those engaging in off road and off byway trespass in pursuit of game and other illegal activities.  In addition to damage being caused to farmland the manner of driving of these vehicles is often aggressive.

Wiltshire Police have an immediate response to such incidents and Hare Coursing is currently a Policing Priority for this area. Enquiries are continuing with impending prosecutions for those we have located. Please report sightings of any unfamiliar 4x4 vehicles if seen on farmland, particularly if they have lurcher dogs with them.

Ring 101 if there is no immediate danger or 999 if you feel there is an immediate danger. If you have any other information in relation to this or other Police related matters please contact us via 101.

14th January 2013

A white coloured Range Rover, registration BW04 WFT was stolen between 4.30pm on Friday 11th January 2013 and 12.30pm on Saturday 12th January 2013 from the Stype area.

If you have any sightings or information in relation to this theft, please contact Wiltshire Police via the non-emergency telephone number 101.

14th January 2013

Following on from the recent report of email hacking in the Community News, the practice known as ‘phishing’ continues.

There is advice on what to do and what to look for on the Wiltshire Police website - http://www.wiltshire.police.uk/index.php/computer-safety/identity-theft/1309-phishing along with lots of other useful advice to staying safe online.

12th January 2013

Please be advised of suspicious activity in Shalbourne.

Two white males speaking with foreign accents knocked at an elderly person’s door claiming they were from the water board. When the home owner questioned them further the males left. Nothing was taken on this occasion however we would urge residents to be vigilant and report such activity to police. If when reporting persons are still at the given location please use 999 - for all other reports please report via the 101 asking for Wiltshire police in the first instance.

We would like to remind residents to be cautious when answering the door to 'cold callers'. Checking id is fine but we also advise that the Yellow Pages/Thomson Local are used to contact head office rather than any telephone numbers printed on the id card.
