Newsletter – February 2016

Grafton Youth ActivitiesIn January several budding sculptors guided by Heloise Tofts created some amazing animals out of clay. Heloise has other talents to share e.g. jewellery, cards and box making, silk-painting, glass-painting, mosaics, marbling, silk-screening, candle-making, lots of ideas for future sessions.

February half term is a busy week with several things going on.

  • 15 February - Trip to Freedog – no broken bits and injuries I hope!

  • 16 February - Trip to Adrenaline Alley, Corby, for keen BMX’ers

  • 18 February - A theatre trip to see Warhorse in London (there are still a couple of tickets available)

  • 18 February - Happiness Arts launches at Old Youth Centre, St Margaret’s Mead, Marlborough (check out the info at the end of the newsletter – it sound brilliant and very different)

Over the next couple of months Youth Activities events include cooking lunch for your families and a couple of trips in the Easter holidays. There are other events happening you can get involved with and volunteer your help. You can be earning Spice Time Credits at the same time (remember for each hour you volunteer you get an hours credit towards an activity you choose).

Please note all the dates in your diary and invite your friends to join in too.

27 February –Mystery Arts in the Wilton Area, 10am-4pm, Coronation Hall (It’s Hush Hush. . .!!)

Come along to this creative session which will inspire a mysterious Arts Council funded happening in the Wilton area later this year. The 27 February event will bring together lead artists with local people, artists and those with a passion for the area including Wilton Windmill and Crofton Beam Engine.

Details are sketchy(!) but a team work piece, sound sculptures, fun and lunch are on the cards. The session is suitable for ages 8 upwards and the organisers want people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved as they need a range of voices and experiences of the local area. If you want to know more and to book a place, contact Louisa on 01672 811515 or louisa@welovemarlborough.co.uk by 19 Feb.

NB Lunch will be prepared and cooked by volunteers from Youth Activities - if you would like to help with the lunch and earn Time Credits at the same time then come along to the Coronation Hall at 10.00am. Please let Annie know you’re coming at youthactivities@graftonparish.comor text 07802 923344.

05 March – Clean for the Queen

Sunflowers have asked Youth Activities to help make the annual litter pick a bit different. This year it’s a national campaign to tidy up across Britain before The Queen’s 90th birthday in June. See www.cleanforthequeen.co.uk for more information.

The plan is for a team of volunteers in each of the 5 parish villages to get together and litter pick their own village – if you can volunteer to be part of the team or perhaps to organise a team for your village (and earn Time Credits as well) then contact either Sue England on 01672 810478 or admin @sunflowers-grafton.co.uk or Annie at youthactivities@graftonparish.comor text 07802 923344

19 March - Cooking lunch for your families in the Coronation Hall - Eating Time 2.00pm

Please note the day for this activity has changed from 18 March to lunchtime on 19 March. This will give us more time to prepare and cook and to get tables laid up ready for your families to eat at 2.00pm. Hopefully it also allows for those of you who have activities on Saturday mornings to still join in

A planning session is taking place on 04 March at 6.30pm in the Coronation Hall, please come to the planning session , help agree the menu and work out who does what – the more who get involved the more we can cook and more parents & families can enjoy a lovely lunch .

It’s important to know in advance if you want to take part and if your families will be coming– the worst thing would be not to have enough food!

The more that come the merrier and for brothers and sisters the table tennis tables and Mac PC will be available to use. It’s a great to opportunity for Mums and Dads to find out more about Youth Activities and plans for the future.

Being part of the planning session (04 March) and cooking on the lunch day 919 March) will both earn you Time Credits.

30 March - Ice skating

Please note this be something different – make a pitch for what you fancy doing. More info on what when and where will be in the March newsletter

04 April - Rifle shooting and /or archery at Oxenwood Outdoor Centre (to be agreed)

Again make a pitch for what you fancy doing at Oxenwood, they do lots of other activities as well and more details will be in the March newsletter

See you there!
